Alexandria Green Business Recognition Program
I was the developer of creating the Alexandria Green Business Recognition Program. Instead of creating a new green rating system, we worked with the Alexandria Convention and Visitors Association to allow businesses to submit any type of current sustainable certification they earned to automatically earn a Green Business Recognition accolade. This allowed all types of businesses to be recognized in the City of Alexandria for their environmental efforts. I worked with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and the Alexandria Convention and Visitor’s Association to utilize their existing staff and outreach for promoting the Eco-City Designation.
Eco-Friendly Restaurant Expo
As part of the Alexandria Green Business Recognition Program, I helped to create the Eco-Friendly Restaurant Expo along with the Alexandria Food Safety Advisory Council. It was a half day expo which involved roundtable discussions including an exhibition, table topics, and speakers. Prior to the event, the City created an award for the restaurant which received the most nominations from their visitors as the “most eco-friendly” restaurant in the city. Tempo restaurant was the inaugural winner.
1st Thursdays, Del Ray
To maintain community outreach, I volunteered at the local First Thursdays in Del Ray with a booth to educate the community on the importance of green initiatives within the community and spread the word of the Eco-City Charter the City of Alexandria had adopted.
