Vision Session

I led the stakeholders and staff through several exercises to obtain the goals and needs for the new building.

Vision Session with stakeholders to understand how decisions were going to be made based on their goals, what challenges they may face during the decision-making process, and the overall aesthetics that they imagine for the new building.

Design Attributes

  • Create more spaces to gather

  • Utilize natural light

  • Create a flexible workplace

  • Integrate the outdoors

  • Highlight the organization: past, present, and future.

Project Constraints

  • Stick to the budget

  • Manage time

  • Make quick decisions

  • Manage land use process

Now we have a roadmap for the design.

Decision Criteria

  • Promote employee connection

  • Create visual impact

  • Retain talent

  • Create opportunities to innovate

  • Anticipate change

Focus Groups

Focus groups were held with every department. The groups reviewed the goals of the stakeholders to provide comment on whether those aligned with their perceptions. Daily activities were reviewed and what was needed to better fulfill their work duties.

Online Survey

An online survey was given to staff, covering topics like preferred adjacencies, privacy needs, new spaces, and place-related questions. Categories included Demographics, Operations, Place, Stuff, Culture, Engagement, DEI, Happiness, and Community Impact.

While not all responses will inform physical design, they can highlight non-physical issues such as communication or processes.

A renovated “place” can’t resolve all workplace concerns.

But understanding what design can and cannot address is crucial.

Report

All of the above phases were combined into a report and was a guiding document to the design of the new building.
